ALF BOSLEY CUP FINAL - Thursday, 24th April, 2008

Report by Derek Cumner

St Aldhelms completed the first Leg of an unprecendated treble after winning the Alf Bosley Cup 3 1 at Yate Town. On Tuesday 29th April they play B & W Avonside in the Final of the Gloucestershire Senior Amateur and they are also the current leaders of Bristol Suburban League Premier One.

In a quiet opening in front of a crowd of approximately 200 people the nearest to a goal was a fine save by the Saints keeper, tipping a goal bound header over the bar in the 10th minute.

The Saints took the lead when they were awarded a 30th minute penalty by Referee Mark Mackreth, which was duly dispatched by Chris Canning.

Kevin Taylor doubled the lead with an excellent near post header from a left wing cross after 35 minutes.

Tony Minzie brought Glenside back in the game converting from 12 yards in first half injury time.

Glenside had the better of the play in the second half without creating many clear-cut chances before Ed Cockle clinched the game for the Saints in the 80th minute.

GFA JUNIOR CUP FINAL 22nd April 08

Report by Derek Cumner

LONGWELL GREEN SPORTS RESERVES 3 WESSEX WANDERERS 3

A first half hat trick from Lewis Perryman and three brilliant penalty saves by Carl Bush were the Wessex Wanderers heros as they completed the second leg of their treble, following last weeks Norman Goulding Cup Final victory, they still lead the Bristol Suburban League Division Two.

After early Longwell pressure Perryman gave the Wanderers the lead with a fortunate goal with a 40 yard shot eluded Dave Leggatt. Perryman added a second when a half clearance fell to him in the box and he made no mistake.

Liam Marsh pulled a goal back with a brilliant left wing shot with the best goal of the game to make the half time score 3 1 to Wessex.

Wessex had to withstand heavy second half pressure and held the lead until the 80th minute when Dale Reilly made it 3 2.

Craig Madine seized on a loose ball in the box to finally break the hearts of the Wanderers with an 86th equaliser.

The 30 minutes extra time passed without a goal for either side to set up a penalty shoot out.

Carl Bush who has saved penalties in the Norman Goulding semi finals and Final was the hero saving three kicks from Liam Marsh, Craig Madine and Paul Painter, Steve Pocock, Steve Webster and Kevin Curtis converted their penalties to give Wessex a victory over their District League Division One opponents. Wessex won 3 2 on penalties

NORMAN GOULDING CUP FINAL 2008

IMPERIAL SAINTS (0) 0 WESSEX WANDERERS (2) 4

A crowd of approximately 200 turned up at Lodge Road to see if Imperial Saints from Division Three could beat Division Two leaders Wessex Wanderers, both teams entered the game in a good run of form, having not lost since October.

Imperial started the better and Wessex took the lead slightly against the run of play on 15 minutes when a half hit overhead kick by Jamie Carnavalie was fumbled over his own line by the Imperial goalkeeper Ben Lovell.

Thereafter , play was evenly matched .However , Wessex doubled their lead when keeper Lovell saved well from a Stu Smart header but Carnavalie fired home the rebound to make the half time score 2-0.

On the 46th minute, Imperial brought on leading goal scorer Ryan Morgan adding Strength to their forward line. They were immediately rewarded when they were awarded a 49th minute penalty. Wessex goalkeeper Carl Bush dived to his right to beat out Morgan’s fiercely hit spot kick and maintain Wessex’s two goal advantage.

What had been a hard fought but fair game boiled over in the 62nd minute when a mass brawl broke out in the Wessex penalty area. Referee John Donnelly restored order but had no option other than to dismiss four players, three from Imperial and one from Wessex.

Wessex scored again on 70 minutes though Lewis Perryman following a good solo run past three players. In the final minute, Wessex substitute Steve Pocock completed the scoring from close range , giving Wessex the first leg of a possible treble .They are still in contention for the Division Two title and contest the GFA Junior Cup Final on 22nd April .
